I always loved and admired your mom.  She was smart, athletic, kind, talented and a thoughtful aunt to me. She reached out several years ago when she visited Philadelphia on an art tour and we spent the day together.  She brought me along on one of the tours and we had a really enjoyable day.

Being 89 years old (at the time) didn't stop Grandma from getting down on the floor and playing with her great grandkids.  I'll never forget how many books she read to them that week or how much fun they had with her. (Don't let James' tears fool you!)

My parents' 25th wedding anniversary was in October of 1978.  I conspired with family friends to have a surprise party for them, flying in life-long friends and  my sister for the party.  About 30 minutes before my parents were due to arrive, my grandmother, who had been recovering from a hospital stay at my parents' house, fell.  My mother called me and said they weren't going to be able to join us (I had given them a story about us all gong to a winery concert).  I quickly called Pat Bradley, our neighbor, and asked if she would sit with my grandmother so my parents could attend the surprise party.  She immediately said yes and was over to the house within minutes of my call. We have so many memories of that party and all the people who came from around the country to help celebrate with my parents (and, yes, they were extremely surprised!).  I will always be indebted to Pat for giving us such a wonderful gift that day.

I became a Bradley in 1980 when I married Mark and have almost 40 years worth of memories.  One memory really stands out and that’s when we were pregnant with our second child, Erin. At the time, Mark was in the Navy and a month before I was ready to give birth, he was sent on a six month deployment. We were living in Florida at the time so Jenny (our 18 month old daughter) and I went to California to stay with my parents for an extended visit until Mark returned. Pat lived an hour away and EVERY SINGLE WEEK, without fail, she brought lunch to us and came to visit. We always laughed because Erin was always sleeping during her visits (and Pat didn’t want us to wake her) but Jenny got to have her grandma all to herself. I'll never forget those visits.

Pat was a great cook and always made wonderful meals and desserts. I never had an interest in learning how to make pie but Mark grew up eating pie and especially loved blueberry (and still does) so Pat taught me how to make it for him.  I make a pretty delicious pie and it’s all because of Pat.

I'll never forget the first time I had crab at the Bradleys'.  My eyes almost fell out of my head when I realized we were EACH going to have our very own crab. What a treat that was! I remember sitting at their dining room table and being so embarrassed when crab juice squirted clear across the table and hit Mary (she probably doesn’t remember that but I always will). Pat was at the center of some very special memories!

Pat was a lovely sister-in-law and great travel companion.  She deserves to rest in peace.

We had a visit with your mom when they were living in Texas. She turned us on to the terrific book, The Power of One, which now all my sons and grandsons have read with great pleasure - one of our all time favorites.
